Finished the next part for project Fiesta St, the engine cover. As with the door mirrors this is a skin that will be bonded onto the original cover. The original cover has a brushed aluminum badge but the customer just wanted a ghost of the badge on the new part. Just for a changed I decided to use 450grm as the surface layer again with GC50 Gelcoat.

Looks good, agreed, I much prefer the chunkier look of 450 as a surface layer

I think the larger weave works for certain applications, it also has the added bonus of being much easier to lay into more complex moulds without having to worry too much about weave alignment.

Cheers, that's down to a lot of time spent flatting and polishing the pattern and EC's GC50 in mould gelcoat.
