Thanks all, thanks for the link to, love the cardboard and expanding foam, great idea!!

Yes you are right it is cheap spray can paint, I was reading on here last week and read a post about the issues this can cause, so rang Easy Composites and spoke to the guys, I think were going to be using the "Uni mold" for making the moulds. I will be putting all of these parts in an oven first which I believe will help and also use a chemical release agent, few layers of wax and then PVA which I am hoping will help us get a good release?

This is the first time I have done this so learning all the time, hopefully the parts will come out pretty good……. fingers crossed!!!

you'r doing a great job! Just as a small reminder that can prevent you a lot of problems:
I hope this isn't cheap rattlecan 1 component spraypaint you are using? It is better to have it done in a 2K spraypaint.
Otherwise your mould might get stuck to the part that you were working on and put a lot of time into Smile

1K Spraypaint might react with resins, causing the spraypaint to dissolve and getting stuck in the resin, making it impossible to get a nice mould

Matthieu, would spraying on multiple coats of PVA, release the mold without any problems despite using 1K primer? It should. Just as long as there is enough film built up, but I use 2k so I'm wondering if you've ever had to do this... Pva with 1k, and what was the result.

Looks great! I think everyone can relate about doing it the hard way once or twice. It builds character! It also teaches you a good lesson through pain to find the correct way, so that in the future you can avoid said pain.

I was at a Time Attack event this past weekend at Buttonwillow for the opening of the Redline series. I'll be excited to see this car (pictures/vids) once it is running the series that you mentioned above.

Avid fan of WTAC here, so I'll be following this one with interest. What class would you be looking at entering? Do you have the build specs for the car somewhere?

We are entering the top class against Nemo, Tilton and the likes!! I am on Facebook mate > "Lee Bullen"

We got the bumper almost finished using filler this weekend, we then painted it primer grey and will be adding a thin coat of black this weekend, the surface imperfections are a lot easier to see now, so hoping to rub the top black coat down back to the grey and then i guess all the surface dents will show up, we hope to to get it pretty damn good this weekend coming.

I should add >> after working with the fibre glass and filler, I was on the Easy Composites on line shop and noticed different products which would have been a lot bloody easier than the way we have done this job, rubbing this down has virtually left me with no skin on my hands!!

Ah well its as much about the learning as it is the end product BigGrin

Cheers guys, I am hoping to compete in UK Time Attack against Gob Stopper 2 so we wil find out how far I am away from the top guys for sure. We are preparing the car for a trip to Australia in October for World Time Attack, so plan is to enter a few UK and Dutch rounds for testing and as a yard stick for pace, and then take the very best on in Australia.

The World Time Attack cars tend to have the most extreme aero, this is the avenue I am hoping to go down, so once we have the body finished that I have mentioned we will be moving straight on to a full flat floor, a boot mounter spoiler and canards front and rear. Once the aero is finished I will move on to making other parts to get the car lighter….. it will be a long road for sure, but hopefully well worth while.

Cheers,
Lee.

Yes! Yes! YES!!!!!

I'm working on a similar project in the states--building a widebody car. It takes awhile. My exitement comes from the fact that my buddy races his 2013 STI.

The bumper looks great. Can't wait to see the progress.
