you'r doing a great job! Just as a small reminder that can prevent you a lot of problems:
I hope this isn't cheap rattlecan 1 component spraypaint you are using? It is better to have it done in a 2K spraypaint.
Otherwise your mould might get stuck to the part that you were working on and put a lot of time into Smile

1K Spraypaint might react with resins, causing the spraypaint to dissolve and getting stuck in the resin, making it impossible to get a nice mould

Matthieu, would spraying on multiple coats of PVA, release the mold without any problems despite using 1K primer? It should. Just as long as there is enough film built up, but I use 2k so I'm wondering if you've ever had to do this... Pva with 1k, and what was the result.

Thanks all, thanks for the link to, love the cardboard and expanding foam, great idea!!

Yes you are right it is cheap spray can paint, I was reading on here last week and read a post about the issues this can cause, so rang Easy Composites and spoke to the guys, I think were going to be using the "Uni mold" for making the moulds. I will be putting all of these parts in an oven first which I believe will help and also use a chemical release agent, few layers of wax and then PVA which I am hoping will help us get a good release?

This is the first time I have done this so learning all the time, hopefully the parts will come out pretty good……. fingers crossed!!!

I think you will get a release fine, I've done a few moulds of parts that I didn't realise had been painted with 1k paint. They came out of the mould fine, but some of the paint stuck to the mould. It essentially destroyed the plug because it would be a lot of work to get it back, but I just cleaned the paint off the mould with acetone and then polished it back to a glossy surface.

If this is what happens to us I will be happy, all of the parts were using for the moulds will be no longer required once we get the moulds made…… can't wait to get started!! Smile

Definitely the best advice I can give is to spray the plugs with PVA release agent. I still get a release when I wipe the PVA on with the cloth, but it's a lot of work to clean the mould up. When I spray it, the part doesn't really release any easier but I've had a few parts painted with 1k where the plugs and moulds were perfect.

Thanks for the advice, I spoke to the guys at Easy comps and we have a plan!! BigGrin we sprayed a few plates up with the paint we have used, we are going to try chemical release compound on one plate, wax on another plate and a chemical release and wax on another. We will see which gives the best release and go with that method, if these are not sucessful we will try the pva method.

After the trials we are going to try the boot panel and do our first mould, really looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

So a bit more work on the car today, this time we have tried to stay to the same products and techniques shown on the EC videos. we are now trying to attach the bumper to the car and get the front wings matched up to the front arches. After mounting the whole lot on a pallet we got all the jigsaw pieces together, but there were some big gaps between the wings were we cut them and the arches. So me and brett have been using core material to fill the gaps and sand these down. Were hoping tomorrow we will get to skim with filler and move straight on to using high build primer.
