Man, thats a big project! There was a feature on 'gobstopper 2' in last months Racecar Engineering. Looks like you're on a slightly less extreme path so should make an interesting read for you.

Hi everyone, I have been on with this project for quite a while, but I am only now just getting to the stage were I will be mould making and then hopefully making parts from composite materials. I have a heavily modified 2006 Subaru Impreza which I am taking to the next level!! I am making the car 2 meters wide, very low to the ground and plan on making a host of body aero parts for the car including a full flat floor too.
In October I attended the 3 day training course at Easy Composites HQ, after a few months working on the chassis of the car making it lighter and more balanced the car has now gone away to have some fairly special suspension modifications carried out. So a friend has given me another Subaru chassis so I can start making panels to suit the new design. Here are a couple of pictures of the car in last years colours and finally some very recent pictures where I am getting close to finishing the hardest and most complicated body part…. the front bumper.
We have already made the rear doors and window in one piece, have front doors ready and boot lid too, once we have the front wings, arches and front bumper finished we are doing a similar design on the rear arches too so it should look fairly spectacular?? The plan is to make all the panels in carbon, some stronger than others, some with an aramid inside layer. I plan on using foam core materials as well as lantor soric in other ares too.
When I start making the moulds (within the next week or two hopefully) I will start posting up pictures, I have never done this stuff before so its all first time stuff!!
Obviously once the mould making is complete we will be pressing straight on with making the composite parts
Hope you like!!
