Bit of a bodge but I moulded this on a piece of chipboard which I covered in vinyl. Its an undertray for my car. Its in 2 layers of spread tow (45 degrees), 3mm 3D core, 2 layers. It weighs in at 3kg and is VERY rigid.

Hi, I have been experimenting with colouring the GC50.
Attached are pics of the result.
The Red Edges where sprayed into the mould first followed by clear and then my normal infusion lay up.
Just added another pic of a Bonnet Scoop made using the same method

Looks good wozza. How do you find spraying the coloured gel, does it have enough opacity or do you have to lay it on thick?

Cheers, I added the pigment at a ratio of 10% and laid down my normal 0.2mm ish coat.
The Red is fine with good colour depth. The white could do with a tad more pigment, if you look really really close you can just see a hint of the black carbon bleading through.
It has taken quite a bit of time to get things right
Timing is crucial, pull the masking tape off too soon and you are left with a "rough" edge leave it too long and you lift the GC50 from the mould

I consider 0.2mm damn thin! I'm still brushing gelcoat and wetlaying. I really should take the plunge into spraying and infusing

The problem with spraying on the GC50 is that if you lay it down too thick then you loose some of the clarity, the weave can start to look a bit blurred. Not as much of an issue on plain weave but quite noticeable on 2/2 twill.

I've been gradually making parts for my car in composites... finally got some lacquer on them so thought id post a few pics
The doors, front and rear end and headlights are made using resin infusion from moulds I made.... the roof is actually wrapped in pro finish carbon using easycomposites wrapping process.... in fact ALL the materials and advice for both the parts and moulds was from easycomposites who I cant recommend enough

Nice work, these parts look fantastic. I spray 2k clear the night before I infuse also.
Haven't tried color yet.
