Hi,

Is it possible to make sandwich panels using closed cell foam and pre-preg carbon fiber flat sheet? If so, what kind of adhesive would be required?
I would like to create a sandwich panel using 3mm thick foam and 0.25mm or 0.5mm sheet.

Kind regards,

Gerrit

Hi Gerrit

We recommend using our ET538Honeycomb Bonding Epoxy Adhesive for bonding the foam core to carbon fibre sheeting.

You would need to key the surface of the sheet, then thinly spread the glue over the sheet.  Apply the foam core and give it a wiggle when sat on the glue to ensure the glue fills into the rough surface rather than just sitting on top of the glue.

An alternative method would be to key the surface as before, then use our Epoxy Rapid Repair Resin brushed onto each panel to bond to the foam.  The advantage of that is that the Epoxy Rapid Repair Resinhas a high flexural strength under load.
