CARBON ONTO MILD STEEL

I know that if I lay carbon fibre on to aluminium I should either use glass fibre between the two materials, or possibly have the ally part anodised. Is the same true for using CF and mild steel? I have looked but cant seem to find any info for this situation. Thanks for any advice. JK

Interesting point. Have you had issues with galvanic corrosion on regular anodized aluminium? I have bonded to both, and don't notice a difference, though I would agree that hard anodized is better in theory simply because it can be tricky to nicely prep a part without removing a coating less than 0.002mm thick... These days I don't actually bother, I don't like to include ali in the layup and prefer to do secondary bonding with a decent bond gap and sidestep CTE issues that may present themselves. Click To Enlarge Click To Enlarge i don't think on a part like this it's an issue, but on a dinamibally loaded part or/and with shock loading a bonding after the fact is probably the better way. In skis they use a rubber strip inbetween the steel edges and the composite which works well.
