I know that if I lay carbon fibre on to aluminium I should either use glass fibre between the two materials, or possibly have the ally part anodised. Is the same true for using CF and mild steel? I have looked but cant seem to find any info for this situation. Thanks for any advice. JK

Just a thought. If I were laying up onto Aluminium, could I get the aluminium anodised, would that also serve as a barrier against corrosion? Many thanks JK

Yes. Just be sure to prep well, without removing the anodized surface.

In my experience this works best if the aluminium is "hard anodized" which is a thicker, more durable oxide layer, compared to regular (coloured) anodization.

Interesting point. Have you had issues with galvanic corrosion on regular anodized aluminium? I have bonded to both, and don't notice a difference, though I would agree that hard anodized is better....

i don't think on a part like this it's an issue, but on a dinamibally loaded part or/and with shock loading a bonding after the fact is probably the better way. In skis they use a rubber strip...

You can mitigate against the galvanic corrosion issues by adding a very thin layer of woven glass between the carbon and metal. Even a thicker layer of resin or even paint layer will usually suffice.
