You can mitigate against the galvanic corrosion issues by adding a very thin layer of woven glass between the carbon and metal. Even a thicker layer of resin or even paint layer will usually suffice.

I have done wet carbon onto alloy sheet for dash faces and also steel tubes for air intakes. No problems that I know of. Of course I know of the corrosion issues but isn't this only happening in a marine environment with water contact etc??

i don't think on a part like this it's an issue, but on a dinamibally loaded part or/and with shock loading a bonding after the fact is probably the better way. In skis they use a rubber strip inbetween the steel edges and the composite which works well.

In my experience this works best if the aluminium is "hard anodized" which is a thicker, more durable oxide layer, compared to regular (coloured) anodization.

Interesting point. Have you had issues with galvanic corrosion on regular anodized aluminium? 

I have bonded to both, and don't notice a difference, though I would agree that hard anodized is better in theory simply because it can be tricky to nicely prep a part without removing a coating less than 0.002mm thick... These days I don't actually bother, I don't like to include ali in the layup and prefer to do secondary bonding with a decent bond gap and sidestep CTE issues that may present themselves.

Just a thought. If I were laying up onto Aluminium, could I get the aluminium anodised, would that also serve as a barrier against corrosion?

Yes. Just be sure to prep well, without removing the anodized surface.

Hello everyone.
I know that if I lay carbon fibre on to aluminium I should either use glass fibre between the two materials, or possibly have the ally part anodised. Is the same true for using CF and mild steel? I have looked but cant seem to find any info for this situation.
