Centre board for catamaran

c Group: Forum Members Posts: 4, Visits: 8	Hi, I have a beach catamaran (Hobie 18) that has a centre board for each hull. They are very old and heavy and I would like to make carbon replacements. The foil is about 1.4m in length, the foil chord is about 40cm and the foil thickness is about 40mm at the thickest point. How would you recommend I approach this? Do I make a mould, make 2 halves and glue them together? Any thoughts please. Thanks in advance. Mike

A lot also use a foam core with the carbon wrapped around the foam core and the surface resin coated and sealed to give a good finish. So it is down to personal choice what you feel is going to be best for you. Hi Warren, thank you for the advice. The issue that I have with a foam core is accuracy, ie getting the core to the right size and shape to take the carbon wrap and end up with an exact copy. Is there an easy step that I am missing? For that reason making it like a razor clam and gluing the 2 halves together sounds to me like a better way to go. I am also thinks of putting in tin carbon sheet like a slice of ham in a sandwich as it were. Is there a trick to ensure that the moulds line up perfectly when gluing the 2 peices together please?
