Hi, ive just recieved a roll of pro finish carbon from EC.
Beeing new to this im supprised how "loose" the carbon was, and this was the pro finish.
I expected to see some traces of resin as mentioned in the description of the product, but it looks to me like it is pure carbon fibre.
Can anyone have a look at the pictures and tell if i got the right product?

Im not looking for a refund or anything, just curious if this in fact is the pro finish fabric.

Also there was some pollution on the fabric, if thats the right word, small pieces of paper/carton between the layers.
Do you guys go over the fabric with a brush or anything before applying the resin?

Hard to say from those pictures, but the set-weave carbon should have a b-staged mist of epoxy on one side. Not extremely obvious, but you can see tiny little droplets.

Otherwise, have you handled raw carbon? It should be obviously different, ie. You won't be able to distort the weave easily like raw carbon. The exposed weft fibres on the edge of the fabric will still fray, but not as easily as raw carbon. Simply put, it's very similar (it is still carbon after all) but the differences are quite obvious if youve handled raw carbon.

Also, you should be able to noticel the slight tack in the material as you unroll if it is Pro-finish.

Thanks guys, the carbon did had a slight tack when i unrolled it.
Hard to tell about the mist though.
But on the next batch i order i will get some regular carbon as well, then i can have a look and spot the difference my self.

What about the dust/paperbits on the carbon, how do i remove this? blow carefully or use a brush?

I would take a picture and talk to EC about it.

ive had plenty of pro finish and its always clean, the dust may be the resin coat, one side, think the outer is exactly as normal cloth and the back will have a dusting of resin holding everything together.

you got to treat it with respect, it's held enough to cut and place but not designed to be thrown about.

Yes, even "pro-finish" is not completely "fixed" in the weave, it would be very difficult to use over any sort of curved surface if it was completely "locked" (It can be tricky over compound curves as it is)

"normal" 2/2 twill CF .. (The "bread'n butter stuff" ) is very loose, conforms ( & distorts) very easily..

I have on occasion "reinforced" the Pro-finish by spraying it with Cytec Aerofix 3 on the "misty" side .. when I wanted to absolutely sure that the edges did not fray (when making visible "cut-lines")

"Sapere Aude"... Dare to KNOW!

Thanks, i did have a close look at the fabric and i can tell for sure there is droplets there, meaning it is in fact the pro finish fabric.

Appreciate the feedback
