Hi Andrew

Thanks for the update. I'm always keen to see people's progress at different stages, sometimes learn more that way.
Aye I know what you mean about running out of time, everything seems to take a long time but no point rushing things. The parts you've done look good so far. The doors look great!

How thick are your panels, how many layers of carbon?

Hi, slow job and we ain't got any spare time so might have to put the old shell back on for this season. I've done the bonnet then removed it from the mould, trimmed it to size and stuck it back on bagging tape then brushed it with pva. Done the roof and part of the front pillars, but run out off time as I'm up to my neck at work and got the engine swap, ecu, loom, tanks, ect to sort out. Need help!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also made the outer door skins....

Well its official then, I’ve stopped lurking in the background and plucked up enough courage to chip in on this brilliant site. As this is my first project with composites I’m learning loads from Warren and would no way have taken on this project without his help and advice in the first place, each day is like being back at school only this time I’m enjoying it thanks to Warren. I’m going to weigh the old fibreglass shell today and decide with help what type of layup we should go for regarding the final part composites, carbon, epoxy, e glass, strength and durability as the shell is not structural but will be subject to some loading due to aerodynamics at speed. Picture of old shell is my first humble attempt with fibreglass for the wheelarch and spoiler additions.

Cheers, Andrew.

That looks brilliant. Smile

How many layers of glass have you used?

How did you manage to layup the overhanging wheel arches?

You have a very luxurious workshop, fancy carpet and everything. I've got a 1 mtr square bit that I have to move about with me, haha.

Craig

Sorry Craig missed your post. As this is really a one-off mould we only used 2 layers of 450 on the main areas with some localised bracing and 3 layers on the flanges. As it turns out I don't thing we would have got the thing off the plug if it had been any thicker.
The posh workshop is Andrew the customers garage so can't take credit for that.Smile

No problem Andrew, it's a great project to be involved in. Mightily impressed with your hard work and dedication on what is your first real composites project. Think we should use some of my release agent for the part though eh w00t

Not the easiest of releases but we managed to get all the sections of the mould off the plug without damage.
