hello guys
new member here
i want to make some structural assemblies from pre-preg cf and i wonder if easycomposites cf is strong enough , or is it just for show purpose / body panels use only ?
for example , when i compare resin properties to cycom 2020 which is used in formula 1 etc i see big difference , but the measurements were made on different systems (iso and astm)
i added the mechanical properties , so how those two can be compared ?
easycomposites :
cytec cycom 2020 :

It depends on what structural part you are making. Autoclave parts allow repeatability and reliability in the cure cycle, less voids etc... so a slightly lower safety factor can be used as you can be more confident of the finished material.
Getting the properties off a datasheet is never the best way if you want dependable results. You need to make some test samples and repeat the tests yourself in your cure environment.
Everything you need is on the EC spec you posted up, just go onto the grafil website for the fibre spec...
So you don't have to search... here's the link (34-700 looks like the closest BTW)...
http://mrcfac.com/home-cfd/products-cfd/grafil-fiber/
Then using first principles laminate theory you can calculate the laminate properties, or feed the info into an FEA program if you are confident you know how to use it properly.
