Hi All

About time for an update!
Nothing much has happen to the lower and upper doors moulds.

I have been making resin infused carbon fibre sheet on a heated glass table, works quite well.
Start with the simple stuff first (new to this composite stuff). Needed to replace these panels and boot lid as the paint work was looking shabby.

Stack is
1 x layer 2/2 twill 3k 199g
2 x Carbon Fibre Biaxial 300g

Finished with a 2K clear coat.

So far I have replaced two side panels with home made carbon fibre sheet Smile

Also I have replaced the scratched up aluminum boot lid with a nice flat sheet of home made carbon fibre sheet Wink

And some dash parts.

Now its time to start making the doors !

Started to creating the Dax Rush front wing using the Uni-Mould system so I can replace it with a nice carbon one.

Basically followed easycomposites part 1 of what seems to be the bible of mould making videos.

) Waxed and Easy Leased the wing.
) Tooling Gel Coat (two coats)
) Coupling Coat 1 layer 100g chopped strand mat
) Tooling Resin 2 layer 450g chopped strand mat

I had to keep reminding myself why I was painting this nice polished wing with gel coat and tooling resin, did not feel right Wink

Very impressed with the Uni Mould system.

looking good, its amazing how much people will pay for simple flat panels. How many plies you going to use on the mudguards?

Hi scottracing,

I was thinking about selling a few sheets of carbon sheets, as most of the stuff for sale is backed with glass fibre :|

Probably will go with this stack ~

1 x 2/2 twill 3k 199g
3 x Carbon Fibre Biaxial 300g

with some
Kevlar reinforcing strips between the Biaxial stack, where it is bonded to the mounts.

Any suggestions are greatly received ...

First product of the Daxro Front Wheel Wing

Stack used.
1 x layer 2/2 twill 3k 199g
3 x Carbon Fibre Biaxial 300g

8 hours at 50c on the ghetto heated glass table, mould wrapped in sheets n blankets to keep it toasty.

Pictures of the first layer layup, happy as no cuts required Wink

First Product, t
here are a couple of small repairs needed on the mould edge, you can see a couple of small white marks on the product, these are the small parts from the mould.

Happy days.

NiceSmile

If your planning on doing more parts for the car it may be worth investing in some spray equipment. That way you can use an in mould clear gelcoat like GC50. This will provide a very tough, UV resistant high gloss finish straight from the mould. Far better than applying an automotive clear coat afterwards in my opinion.

Thanks for the positive comments, really do appreciate them.

Good call wozza, I do need to master the gelcoat process. I tried the GC50 on a tea tray a few months back applied by brush, but it never seemed to dry just stayed tacky ...
I have some GC50 in the composite cupboard, just need a gelcoat gun https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/gelcoat-spraying-cup-gun Wink I have normal spraying equipment but I assume its no good for gelcoating ?

Wozza that front wheel guard you posted sure does look shiny and Smooooth
