Hi Tom,

The Carbon Fibre Biaxial I am using is this https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/wholesale-offers

I heat my mould on a glass table an old desk from Ikea that sits on a box with a fan heater supplying the heat.
Can get the table up to about 80c on the glass surface.

> I have normal spraying equipment but I assume its no good for gelcoating ?

Gelcoats can be sprayed with normal sprayguns, but you need to reduce their viscosity by thinning them with styrene and acetone.

"for howlong you keep it in after infusion channels are closed."
After closing the infusion lines I left it in the mould for 8 hours at 50c then let cool down to room temperature for a couple of hours so 10 hours all in all. Normally I will leave over night in the mould, but I was a bit eager to see the result.

"you use any spray glue to fix it in the mold? any gc50 as gelcoat for finish?"
No spray glue to fix it in the mould, or GC50 for finish going to use a 2K clear coat.

"Gelcoats can be sprayed with normal sprayguns, but you need to reduce their viscosity by thinning them with styrene and acetone."
Interesting...

Time to build another one with the weave going in the other direction, and clear coat the pair Whistling

Be careful if you try thinning GC50 it can become cloudy/milky once cured ruining the appearance of the finished part. It is worth investing in a dedicated gelcoat gun. Also they are much easier to clean than a conventional spray gun, if you use acetone to clean it after use it will attack the seals/O rings.

Project Daxro - Front Wheel Wing (product 2)

Photos of the process of the second front wheel wing in a little more detail, a picture says a thousand words Wink

Clean out any dust from the mould.

Apply Easy-Lease Chemical Release Agent.

Look at the trick carbon Wink

Carbon nicely situated.

Paper cloth to reduce any snagging while pressing down stack into place.

Gently press carbon into place with spare wing.

Cutting board.

1 layer of 2/2 twill 3k 199g and 3 layers of Carbon Fibre Biaxial 300g.

The stack gently pressed into place.

Peel ply pressed into place.

Peel ply cut to shape.

Infusion layer and bagging stuck down with infusion lines.

The resin flowing though the stack.

The resin flowing though the end part of stack.

Mould covered in towels, blankets, jumpers.

The ghetto oven mould surface reached 55c for 8 hours, not to shabby.

The product popped out of the mould. and the peel ply released ok

Small part of resin/carbon decided to stick to the peel ply ?

Two products with opposing weaves. Sweet !

Time to cut back the new product.

Time to sand back the print though from the material.

Thumb up!

Now it's time to sand back the edges, print though, 2K Clear coat the pair and then install them ...
