I want to use RI for a project but am abit confused about the resin to use

When the molds were delivered they came with this note:

Molds: Each of the molds used for manufacture will be constructed using a CCP gel coat layer of 20-40 mills backed up with a surface veil and 3-10mm of hand laid chop mat and Hydrex vinyl ester resin. This will be backed up with 10-20mm of Optiplex tooling resin and chopped glass.

All tools will be mounted to backup structure with foam and fiberglass standoffs to eliminate and any future print through or mark off in the plug surface from the back up structure.

Molds will be suitable for heated vacuum bag or clamping pressure molding up to 5 tons of pressure and 250 deg f.

So which resin would you use vinylester?

The job is for an underwater glider about 1m x 1m easy curves

Thanks Dean

Hi Dean

As far as I know you pretty much must use epoxy resin for  infusion if using carbon fiber to get the best mechanical strength.

It doesn't really matter what the mold is made of as long as you have a good release system in place..

You can get low viscosity polyester resin to use for infusion but this obviously has the normal downfalls and has to be infused at -0.8 bar at most

I've heard that if youre infusing with epoxy and the mould is polyester based, you need to posture the mould to bake the styrene out of it, otherwise you'll get release problems. I need clarification on this.
