I have always wanted to make carbon fiber running boards for my truck. I don't want to spend $640 US on step boards that are too close to the cab that when you step out, you only touch the outer part. I would much rather spend $650 and make my own from carbon.
The stock design is oval, but I want to make them the way I want them to look. I want a 6" wide with 2" of depth. They will be 80" long.
Would two C shaped pieces work best and then bond them together OR does anyone have any other ideas?
Mike

Well I bet it would be a cheap durable solution to just go with the tubular style running boards, but they would be black
checkout this stuff:

Also yes if you were slick enough you could make 2 molds to make a top and bottom for the 6x 2 plank layout. Or maybe just make one mold and fill it with core materials to get 2" thick? I have 0 experience with core materials but someone may chime in if 2" is possible with core materials. Its gonna need to be strong so thick core may be in order.
If Brute Force Isn''''t working your not using enough...

2" built out of carbon and core materials is a good idea. If I went that route, maybe only 1 inch thick would do?

OK, that got me thinking. If I looked at it as if it were a bonnet- outer top layer(s) and then a grid like support skeleton with mounting fixtures laid in...........
