So thinking of getting some proper heating in the garage and wondering what you guys recommend.

I unable to spend loads on professional fitted kit so was thinking butane heater, paraffin heater, halogen etc.

most interested to know if I can use infra red lights, could I use these to cure as well as give general room heat.

Chris.

I bought a 3kw fan heater and tried to draught proof the garage as much as possible for when I'm infusing. Be interested to hear other opinions as i'm a beginner

Happy with the results I've had though

Beware "open flame" (direct) heaters by two reasons: By one side may be an explosion owed to aceton or other vapours. The other side, the open flame produces rests that con end over your molds's surfaces and inhibit resin´s curing.

ok so stay away from open flame heaters.

like the look of the infra red ones but on reading the paint guys use short wave lights as opposed to long wave (cheaper) ones.

Very good solution is to use electric blankets. No good for post-cure temperatures, but great for initial cure temps.

If your mould/part is small enough then you can also make a temp tent over it with a foot heater blowing in under it, just put a few weights around the edge and a let some of the air blow out the other end.

I use the very light disposable painters drop sheets from the hardware shop as they are so light they just float up into a nice balloon type tent.

I also recently used an LPG flame type heater/blower to heat my workshop for a particular infusion job, it worked fine but the fumes from burning LPG fill the shop and are really unpleasant.

I insulated the roof of my single garage/workshop a few years ago and now I can keep a constant 20 degree C with a 4kw fan heater. I also use an additional  2 kW heater and iv had the area on my bench upto 40 deg C.
