Hi,

I've seen videos where somebody creates a simple formwork around the front edge an old kitchen worktop and pours clear or pigmented epoxy resin over the worktop up to an inch or so, popping small surface bubbles with a blow torch and quickly transforming it into a beautiful glass-like surface with no unsightly carpentry joins. Question is:

1. What's the best epoxy for this? I'm thinking 'coating resin'?
2. Providing it's level, is this as easy as it looks or will I be entering a world of pain?

Thanks for your help.

Regards, James Hewings

There are some special resins for this kind of things,... some staff member can probably help you further.
Leveling it shouldn't be that difficult I guess, use some tools to level the surface

As yet, we don't stock a specific table top/worktop coating resin.  We have resins that are similar for skinning, but they have not been specially formulated or tested to see how well they would work as a coating for table tops/worktops.  As such we wouldn't want to recommend you something that might not perform as you would wish.

Thanks for your advice. I've bought some coating resin and some laminating resin and I'm going to do some tests.

I am sharing the dilemma you shared last year. Would you be able to say where it got you to?

We are currently researching a supplier for a suitable table top type resin as we get a LOT of enquiries about such resins now.  Such resins are a lot harder to find than even we thought but we are making progress and hopefully will have something in the next few months if our research goes to plan.
