EC staff advised me against using a gel coat. The parts have had a flexible (apparently) 2k clear coat applied. The first ones I did were a bit too flexible so I added more reinforcement on the second attempt. It took an age for it to cure. After 4 days I put them in the spray booth/oven. Although not advised by EC I think I may try heating the resin and have a bash at infusion with it!!! I wet laid and vacuum bagged these.

So 2 layers of 600g carbon?
I've read it's nearly impossible to Infuse with flexible epoxy resin?!
So would be vacuumbagging then? Did you use a gelcoat? I guess not?!

I'd say it'd be perfect for the helmet. You'd need to go fairly thick, say 2 layers of 600g at a guess.

I have some interest in the flexible resin but have no idea how "flexible it is"...
is it like a sheet of plastic of that thickness and curve or more rigid?
I'm asking you this because I've made a Fieldhockey Goalie Helmet, not that long ago with mould and so on...
The problem is, I've used the strongest epoxy resin as possible and so on... The mistake ive made is that Hockey
Helmet arent industrially made that strong, this because whe the keepers slides in on the attacker and hits his head on
the ground, the side of the helmet will take some of the impact if flexible. If rigid, the helmet will move as one piece and put
all the impact on the neck of the goalie. Thats why I'm looking for a flexible, strong resin for my next (better) prototype of the helmet.
Would that resin be ok?
here is a video of the original helmet made by OBO
The helmet I made in Carbon Fiber (first prototype), part #4
btw, good job on the trial bike, looks killer!

Completed my first project using the EC EF80 Flexible Resin, mudguards for a Trials Bike. I am hoping that the combination of Carbon/Kevlar reinforcement and the Flexible Resin will hold up to the abuse of Trials Riding. I did do a very scientific "impact" test, put the rear one on the workshop floor and jumped on it ha ha.
