I'm doing a resin infusion so I need a flange all the way around were I have this big gap do I have to just build a wall out of modelling from the base up to the part? I'm using the epoxy tooling gel and putty kit from ec.

Hi David,
You can just build a wall of modeling plasticine with a layer of filleting wax on the final layer.
But if you don't have enough you could just pack it up with some thing, I have used all sorts in the past to pack it up to the required level.
Most of the time I try to use fluted signboard hot glued to the underside and supported for the flanges and plasticine with a touch of filleting wax to smooth off the edges.
Just make sure those flanges are big 4inch or so, nothing worse than small flanges to work with.

Thanks davro confirmed what I thought it just looks like I made it a lot harder than it should of been :-) when you say four inch flanges you mean where I I paint the tooling gelcoat onto the base board yes?
I'll defo be getting a hot glue gun tomorrow!
This is what I've got so far.

4 inch flange from the edge of the product to the outside edge of the mould, basically enough space to layup the stack and stick down the edge of the carbon and lay the infusion lines, gum tape with out struggling for space.
Wow that is some Technicolor plasticine you got there, make sure the plasticine is nice and flat and the edges are nice and smooth it's worth taking the time to get a decent finish on the mould.
I like to get the rough shape using plasticine then do a small covering with filliting wax as it's much nicer to work with and you can get a semi polished finish
