Hi Hanaldo,

I normally would have used Carbon Fibre 2/2 Twill, but I was running low Sad
And I had an off cut in ProFinish that fitted perfectly for this product Wink

Sorry EC, but I've started making my own "pro-finish" ...  Startig from a need of some "plain weave" and "Twaron" "pro-finish" --

I lay up ordinary CF weave (any weave really) on my glass table... back side up, make sure the weave is perfectly straight and even,  then spray it with Zytec Aerofix 3 ... then leave it to dry ...

And ... before you all ask ... YES! ... the "new" "Zytec Aerofix" will be visible in the resin, through gelcoat, if you use it to tack the visible side of a cosmetic CF part to the mould.

not a problem, if you make sure to have your "homemade" profinish" the right side up ...

You can vary the "stiffness" of your own "profinish" by using more ore less Aerofix...

The "homemade" fixing spray using partly cured resin dissolved in acetone works just as well for making your own "profinish"  only disadvantage is that it stays slightly sticky.
Big advantage is that it will becom invisible in the finished product, if you get it on the outside of a part. (unless it has picked up a lot of dust in your tidy workshop .. Ermm)

Fitting the carbon fibre side wings, drilling holes and cutting to shape
The driver has four layers of 2K clear coat on the drivers side only 2 more to go Smile
The passengers side is a work in progress manifold and heat issues Sad

Have come across a potential problem with the manifold side and heat in the following pictures you can see the pipes running along side the side wing, the exhaust wrap is in direct contact with the side wing Sad

I was thinking about making a natty metal sheet to cover the area where the manfold pipes are in direct contact with the side wing ? any thoughts on how to sheild the carbon side wing from the awesomeness of the exhaust manifold, and yes it does get hot !! I will go out for a run and measure the temp of the exhaust wrap after a little drive Wink

You could possibly use ATL Heat Reflective Film between the exhaust and panel work but might be easier to get the headers extended outwards a few extra mm by re welding, you wouldn't see the welds after re wrapping.

Hi Davro

I started googling ceramic coated manifolds to see if replacing your exhaust wrap would be any better (maybe give you an air gap?) but I stumbled across this.

http://www.zircotec.com/page/--thermal-protection/145

It looks expensive tho.....  lol. Wee video    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYlG9kVLolU&feature=youtu.be

How heavy is your battery? Looks like 12kg....  Think you need one of these   http://www.racecarbattery.co.uk/bev02---16-cell-race-car-batteryb-2-p.asp    Wink

Thanks for the feedback.

After a drive out I measured on the exhaust wrap area that will be in contact with the panel at 210°C or 410 fahrenheit's for are Merican brethren.

In reality, the IN2 resin infused carbon fibre will cope with about 100 before heat distortion begins and bonds starts to break down and it becomes a soggy mess.
Not sure what the ignition point of the IN2 infusion resin is ? nothing in the specification ...

The reflective tape I have is only rated to Temperature ranges -30°C to 125°C so I am going to order some Kapton tape with Temperature range -30°C to 280°C should be a good starting point.

Thinking about 2 layers of the lower temp tape followed be 2 layers of the high temp Kapton tape.

I am planning to make a complete new stainless steel exhuast system and manifold in the winter so this is really only a temporary measure. But a fun test with high temps and carbon fibre shielding, as the exhaust is eventually going to be run underneath a side skirt.

Nice battery but how much Blink

Still waiting for the Kapton tape so I built a new Accelerator Pedal about the same weight as the old one but much tougher, inspired by Brain2fast's fancy pedals.

Just got to sand some edges and clear coat it!

Dave .... You will have to build the walls of your living room in plain weave, otherwise you will see twill-stripes for 2 hours on the inside of your eyelids after a day in that car... w00tHeheLaugh
