Thanks for the comments.

@ baja patient

Yes, a glass sheet is used as the tool face.

Not really, once you add up the cost of the extra resin, lay up time and very slow infusion with the thicker E Glass panel that would be needed to match the 2mm carbon then it kinda starts to become a bit of a false economy. And to be honest once you start to go 3mm or 4mm thicknesses with E Glass then other materials like MDF, DiBond and Perspex
would be just a suitable and even more cost effective for a basic coffee table. Yet with the 2mm carbon I have managed to get the table to come in at less than 6KG and loaded an even load of over 130kg on top of it, the carbon is worth the bit extra I think...

Really good work and nice finnish!

Just for the costprice; wouldn't it be better to use (cheaper) fiberglass inbetween the carbon layers?

That table is sick!! Fresh and clean work!

Really very nice. What did you use as a surface to make your panels? Glass plate?

cheers

Hi,

So I have had my EC infusion kit for a few months now and have made a couple of sheets of various materials, thicknesses and sizes and now felt that i had learned enough to try and start building stuff with the sheets that I had infused...

So for the first project I have chosen a basic carbon coffee table, a simple box with the aim of learning how to handle and bond the materials and maintain a good finish on the faces and edges as well as having a solid build...

Table size was 900mm x 450mm x 495mm, so in all I needed about 2sqm of sheet material to wrap 5 sides of the box...

The lay up for the base of the table was carbon 200/650/650/200 to give me 1.9mm.

And the top was carbon kevlar 210/carbon 650/650/200 and was 2mm.

The legs are 10mm box section from EC.

All bonding was done with Permabond ET500.

The table...

Final finish after a quick wax...
