ok so i set about making my first mould. as some of you know ive had to use polyester resin as i was misinformed before i purchased my supplies. anyway ive got a few questions to go with the pics ive uploaded. why did the pva bead off? i assume its not compatible with the wax. i cleaned it from the part and just waxed it again as i didnt want these beads in the mould.

can i use the tooling gelcoat again with carbon fibre or chopped strand to reinforce the mould? or can i use epoxy laminating resin over the cured polyester to reinforce it?

thanks

update!

the mould turned out good today. i noticed that were i had left the pva on the board there was a horrible mark on the flat surface on the outside of the mould so im glad i wiped it from the part and went with wax only as its realy shiney and smooth. ive cleaned it up now and put a few coats of wax and i think its ready to pull a part from it. in future i dont think ill be using pva if its going to bead as bad as it did.

Nice to hear that it turned out good.

I never ever used PVA and never had bad news. BUT on a plug or on a new mold i wax stuff 12 times (yeah in Belgium we're crazy people... prolly cos of the beers Tongue ).

Some people would spray their PVA, so it would remain "flat", given their wax is compatible with their PVA (and then not cause fish-eyes).

Notice than EC guys dont use PVA on the UNIMOLD video, and those guys know what they do.

yeh i noticed that. ive givin the mould about 7 waxes already and smoothed down a little lip that was on it so the part doesnt get stuck in there. think ill have a go tonight at taking a part from it. i wont be using pva just the wax so hope it works ok this time lol.
