Group: Forum Members Posts: 157, Visits: 1.2K	Been slowly working through the rest of the mould... its turned out to be an 8 part mould, just the custard to go on the rear window section then I can release it. strangely I'm pretty excited about breaking the mould off the buck. wheel arches have been a nightmare to do, these extend under the sills and I've really struggled to get the custard coat to stick under the return. Gel coat on rear window section (last part ) Coupling coat on the rear window section... custard will follow in 2014

Bit snowed down with other stuff and other cars breaking down at the minute! I'll look forward to it. I've just done a hard top for my car that weighs less than the soft top! Group: Forum Members Posts: 157, Visits: 1.2K	next step was to go over the 2 coats of Gel with a thin coupling coat using glass tissue... this allows the custard coat to bond to the Gel coat as they use a different chemical composition. The custard coat layer is put on very resin rich, its contains a material that expands at the same rate as the resin in it shrinks which means it has effectively zero shrinkage... all my moulds so far have been absolute exact copies of my buck's which means the final parts fit together perfectly with great shut lines. One issue I have noticed this morning that that I have managed to do a few drips on the rest of the exposed body, and when removed these have reacted slightly with the paint, so I am going to have to do a little remedial work to resolve before making the other mould sections. Here are the pics of the custard coat.

Group: Forum Members Posts: 157, Visits: 1.2K	I started making the barriers for the first mould section.... Care must be taken to ensure the mould will release from both the buck AND the final part. You will always make the final part slightly oversize so it's very easy to accidentally get a lock on the overlap or the other mould sections. Current plan is for this to be 9 sections ( my rear clip was 12).... So far I have got the first layer of the gel coat down, another coat tomorrow morning and then I can do the coupling coat.

What engine specs are you going for? Also just to add this spanner to the works, a friend of mine works for the company that provides f1 teams with their pre-preg. He told me that red bull racing cam covers were 1 layer thick of normal pre-preg carbon. Obviously i can say this is 100% accurate but i can see why they do it! Alex glad you like it, and thanks for the info... the engine is already 700bhp, its unique in the UK as its a single turbo that I designed myself with my own design of clutch package.... car is a real 1off in almost all areas. To be honest all the mods on this car is simply R&D for my scratch build car that I have designed and been building forever lol.
