I've noticed I've been on this forum a while now and yet I have not contributed any knowledge (due to not having any in this field). Guy like Wozza (Warren), Matthieu, Carbon Cactus, the Easy Composites team, and others have really helped with getting my project off the ground - many thanks!

I have experimented with different tapes and sealants. I have also tried heat sealing with a hand held hot wire jobbie. I always go back to sealant tape. Its cheap enough, although the lack of re-usability does leave my cheapskate side disappointed.

If you are getting results with an alternative product, and it works out cheaper either due to cost or time savings, why not? I expect acrylic caulk would go gooey in the oven, as heat resistance is a property of silicone when it comes to sealants. But then again, there's hundreds of products out there.

Normal sealant tape is butyl based, maybe you can try butyl rubber sealant in tube form? I might give that one a go myself actually!

I reuse gum tape.  On a flanged mould, if yourecareful, you can get the bag to leave the tape on the mould.  I usually hand lay and bag so if I want a foam core I lay one skin, pull off the bag and lay in the core, bag that, pull off the bag and lay in the second skin.  I get all three out of one lot of tape.  The only extra bits I have to add are for the pleats. 

I must admit that this only seems to work with the EC tape, I've tried others and found the tape a bit firmer so it doesn't seem to cope with re-use so well.  The EC stuff really is top notch.
