I've noticed I've been on this forum a while now and yet I have not contributed any knowledge (due to not having any in this field). Guy like Wozza (Warren), Matthieu, Carbon Cactus, the Easy Composites team, and others have really helped with getting my project off the ground - many thanks!
So as a frugal chap, or miser
, I've been experimenting with caulking as an alternative to bagging tape for room temperature curing at to -30 inHg pressure.
I found the cheapest £1.00 acrylic caulking to hold this pressure for 24+ hours. Silicone didn't have the 'tack' to hold the bag securely.
Caulk reduces precious time in application to get a perfect seal. Also, I imagine it can be used in conjunction with bagging tape to improve seal. I believe it's viscosity is such that the vacuum will suck it into tape-bag creases, but will not venture far to contaminate the stack.
The negatives are that one must be extremely careful moving the mould when curing, otherwise your f...!
How it works in an oven I cannot say as I don't have these facilities...
