I have been using Advanced Composites Group's VTF261 for almost all of my Pre-preg parts surface material. I also use some material from SHD but that is for backing up the part as it is quite a bit cheaper than VTF.  So after a chat with some of the guys at PRF I decided to try their PRF 464 material this week...  I only got the part out of the mould last night so sorry for the poor photos but it is actually a very good product and although there is some pin holes on the surface it is more due to the breather stack we think than the material. I laid it up like I would with VTF but we think it has to have a perforated release film not the non perf I have been having the best results with VTF.

Again sorry for the poor camera phone photos I took last night.

I used a friends oven... I am in the process of building my own large oven for full bike kits.. It was cooked at 65 degrees C for an hour then slowly taken up to 85 degrees for another 4 hours. Total cooking time was 8 hours including the time it takes going up from the ambient temperature of the workshop. It did not heat up any faster than 2 degrees per minute and going from 65 to 85 went up at between 1 and 2 degrees per minute.

As I say it is not a perfect pin hole free surface but it is the best of the Non VTF materials I have tried and as it is about 20% cheaper to buy and there is no need to buy 25 Sq/m minimum it allows me to make good parts without the premium price of VTF and I do not have to carry large quantities of material in the freezer at the moment.. I dont currently have enough work to justify having 50+ Sq/m of surface material and back up materials losing life in the freezer.. As it is I have probably 7 rolls of different material from different jobs so having one material I can use for surface and back up which is good enough for most jobs is a bonus. I can use VTF on the most cosmetic jobs which have a premium price but parts that will end up being painted being made with this PRF 464 material saves both the customer time and me money...

The weave doesn't look very square, corners look a bit rounded.

It was late last night so poor light and camera shake... lol.. I would still chose VTF over any other for good cosmetic parts. But on a budget or if they are going to be painted ect.. I would not be averse to using this material... Even when lacquered it would be very nice only need a little extra work finishing it off if perforated release film does not completely get rid of the pin holes.... It is a good alternative to any other pre-preg available... especially if it is Sub £46 per Sq/m.... Wink haha

Hope this is a little clearer... It still needs an undertray which will be bonded in place.. But this is a fully self supporting seat unit and weighs 890Grams. Including inserts for two exhaust pipes, adjustable height seat base and chassis mount sleeves.

Great work ,a lot of guys haven't a clue about composites jumping in trying run before they can walk, the basic skills and construction comes from boat building,I can not upload from this iPad would be happy to end photos through email, right now iam making air box with ram air for 03 r1 graves do a fiberglass one,but iam sure I can make my own with a better intake and more air vollum capacity, what was you total laminate thickness around mounting points, when I made mine at mounting points I had 25 layers and every 10 centimetres I tapered layers to down 25 -15 -10-5 total weight was 1046 grams a saving of over 9lkilos from the original subframe.
