Hi!

I'm preparing a saddle cover for my bike, made in CF with epoxy (by infusion). This one:



I already made the mould from the original in ABS, but now I'm looking for a solution for the underside, where I've to make the mounting points:




There are three mounting points and I'm wandering about how to do them.

I've got some silicone rubber that I can use to make three little moulds.. but then what can I do?
Pour some resin in the silicone mould, then glue the monting points on the main piece?
Do I need casting resin or I can use just standard? Maybe infusion resin which is more easy to get in the little contours?
But will the mounting point made only of resin be strong enough?
Can I glue it just with some more resin?

Any help will be welcome!!!

 Your idea is very good, and I think it would be very strong done like that...

To say the through I think it would not be so easy to layup the alraeady casted mounting points in the main piece, and almost impossible if you do it with infusion.

I think I will try to glue it somehow on the main piece

You say you need casting resin... do you think laminating resin or infusion resion would not be good just for litte parts like these?
What is the differebce from casting resin to the pther kind?

I don't have casting resin and I'd need to buy it just for this... so if i can do without...

In your case I would say you need to give us more pictures and information.

I would think that for the under side that is not seen the mounting points can be made in seperate molds. There is no real strength in casting plastic. You should make them out of carbon fiber. Once done you scuff the mounting surfaces and bond the parts on as sub units. There are adhesives that will rip the panels apart before the glue fails. View the instructional video of Matt making a car hood and consider the under side of the hood as the mounting points you are going to apply as sub sections.

Just bond some big head composites fasteners underneath, if they need to be raised then you could easily make a small tower from a range of materials, but you'd probably be best with longer bolts and a spacer made to length

That's a good idea.. I just need to find some big head fastner... I already looked for it in some italian e-shop but still didn't find..

I just found this: bigHead fasteners

They are UK producers and there's a list of distributors for the different countries if somebody is interested...

I think the best would be to make them by yourself... just as you need them

this seems very easy try to advise me how to do console mountings with angle to attach to console. i can upload photo if that help?
