I have a question about the EasyPreg surfacing layer. What would happen if I only used one layer of the EasyPreg Surfacing layer and not a backing layer? Would it cure as if it were a one layer of 3k twill infused?

The reason I ask is that I have an absolutely impossible piece to make. If I could apply one layer of the easy preg and cure it I should then be able to treat the surface like I was skinning a part. Because my part is so small skinning will not work, but the easy preg looks like i could cut it into very fine detailed pieces with my surgical scissors and then it would hopefully glue down to my mock up. I would skin my mockup with the easypreg to take its shape and then remove and build up layers for strength on the inside of the part. Then I would use my skinning epoxy to finish the out side surface. Clear/Polish/done!

Hi Fred,

Yes you can use our Easy-PregSurface Layer PrePreg Carbonas a single layer and it will cure fine as an out of autoclave process in an oven.

Obviously it depends how complicated the shape is, but you may find you can make the whole part out of pre-preg easily enough, even where the same object would be prohibitatively complex or virtually impossible to do using resin infusion. 

The nature of pre-pregs means they can use accurate trim lines to get into hard places as well as using it's natural tackyness to hold it in place during the layup.  You can increase the tack with a heatgun during layup to ensure it sticks in those hard to reach places.
