I have used 3M 77 (which is the industrial strength stuff) I think it is too much. It sticks very well of course, but it leaves a residue on the surface of the part. It is hard work getting that off and this is in no way ideal if you want perfect parts right out of the mould.

I now use Zyvax StayZ, way way better, seems to interlink with the epoxy as described, yet the surface is also not 100 % so some post work will have to be done. Also it is constantly out of stock and hard to get.

As for the 3M 77, maybe i used way too much, because most people are always stressing how little spray glue is actually needed. i use it to bond the peelply as that does not remain in the laminate. The rest of the layers are bonded with StayZ.

You can use the 3M 77 but i think its too much, yet my mould was so complex i didnt want to risk the cloth not staying down. As an alternative i could suggest using a lower strength (more standard) type of spray adhesive, using very small quantities.

I will possibly also look into the hairspray idea. For now, the Stayz seems to be working best, and it lets me not worry about the structural integrity of the laminate.

All my entire project I used scotch spray mount and there is no problem in CF part quality appearance and structural. may you can try.. The price is just 8 USD, you may find it on bookstore and stationery store.

Nice to hear of that theory of hairspray.
In addition on that I can say; not to use "normal hobby sprayglue".
Ive tested it and found out it forms a barrier through wich the resin can not pass, leaving dry cloth under it.

Some people use 3M spray. I talked to a large manufacturer at at a trade show. I asked what they used as a tackifier and to my shock he said they used the cheapest none perfumed hair spray. He bought it by the case.

Blink wooa !
I would be afraid it reacts with the gel coat or the infused resin in an unexpected way, wouldn't you ?
It is why I'd like yo be sure to find a specific product, a neutral product Smile

thanks for the input Wink

I bought a product called elmers repositionable spray, it's clear pva light adhesive. If you lightly spray the fabric (not the mould), leave it a minute or two it's ideal.  It's tacky enough but not too tacky.  I'm using pro finish fabric.
Thank you for the tip Mikew Wink

Apparently there is a problem with the manufacturer, it has been showing "out of stock" on the EC website for a couple of months now. I keep asking
for an update on availability but no luck so far.

Thank you wozza,

too bad then,

at least do u know what sort of product is it ? can we use some placeholder ? I find it very handy to help positioning the layers, especially when you have to fine-position a layer.

regards Smile
