I have a piece made of forged composite (carbon fiber) and it is used in motorsport and I need to make a piece of it using the traditional carbon fiber fabric, this piece has 2mm, I would like to know how many layers of carbon fiber it takes to have a similar mechanical property?

I intend to use carbon fiber with weights 200 g / m² and 300 g / m² and epoxy resin.

The manufacturing process will be done by vacuum infusion using silicone bag membrane because of the large scale manufacturing of that part.

I thin k in forged cabon the  fibers are distrubuted in all directions and therefore it has isotropic propertys. So either you  make your layup in different angles as well to get a similar behavior or you use the advantage  of fiber reinforced plastic and think about the loads and the resulting optimized fiber orientation. In the second case you  can have less thickness, in the first case  I would do about the same thickness.

"Forged carbon" is a term often used with thermoplastic resins, in which case the performance would be quite a bit lower compared to epoxy. so in that case thickness could be smaller too.
