Hi all,
I am looking for a pre preg or composite that allow me to create a "
paste" or semi-liquid, that once dried, with the next characteristics:

- Strong / stiffness similar to carbon fibre.
- Light / weight similar to aluminum.
I plan to create a mold (steel, aluminum...) and put this paste on it, dry it, and create strong, light solid pieces.
Do you provide this product?
Do you have a solution, composite, ingredients to obtain something similar?

Excellent website by the way.
Rafa

Dear Mr. Verma,

As I said in my post, we want to manufacture solid pieces.

The pieces has to be strong, something similar to carbon fibre.
The pieces has to be light as well, something similar to aluminum….

The point here is that we don’t want to have a manual or complicated process. We consider working with carbon fibre complicated, because of the vacuum process, the manual process, etc…

We are looking for a process where we mix different products (like cooking), we can put some heat, not too much, and the liquid or paste produced with that mix, we will put it into standard molds. Once the mix is cured or dried, we open the mold, and we go for the next one.

Is that possible?

Thanks in advance,

Rafael Chao

Hi Chris,

The link you added to your post talks about a paste of carbon fibers, mixed with a resine. It sounds pretty good, now I need to know if we need an oven, or we can you the paste directly on a mold without heating or something similar. Looks like it will need injection molds.

Next step is to find out who manufactures this forged Composites.

Thanks so much for your post !!!!

Easy composites sell a tooling paste made of glass fibres and epoxy resin. If you are looking for forged conposites like quantum conposites you will need a press or autoclave to cure and consolidate the material.
I think you are looking more for a paste that you can extrude?

Hi scottracing,

I thought forged composites was an option, but It looks like it needs injection molding, which makes the final product very expensive. I am looking for a paste like you said, curing period is not a problem, the point is to manufacture solid pieces with low costs.

Do you know exactly which tooling paste are you talking about? do yo know the name?

Thanks so much for your post

if you look for mould putty on the east composites forum thats what im on about.

The lamborghini forged composite is much  like cut up pieces of prepreg  but rather than being autoclave cured, they have a snap cure resin and are cured in tools in a heated press.
