Hi Jon,  The video is currently in production so still needs a fair bit of post processing, but as soon as it is ready, it will be released. We have basic instructions in the product listing but will be releasing a full downloadable data sheet with the video.

Hi!

I've now been using up a couple of kilograms of XCR Resin ... It really is an exceptional product to use!!

1. Its very much more predictable in the timing of the "tack" when doing skinning, than the old "coating resin"
2. at high temperatures an some humidity the XCR does not produce "Amine Blush" like the original Coating resin
(I did a direct comparison a few days ago, where my workshop was up to 26 deg. C. in midday and never dropped below 24)
3. When you hit the correct "tack" it keeps the CF cloth stuck on perfectly, even in tight concave corners.
4. It performs extremely well as a "clear coat" directly on brushed Aluminium (The Front-fork Bracket in the picture next to the mud-guards is clearcoated with one thick layer of XCR, then flattened and polished -- )

I just ordered an extra kg. of XCR .. To try it as a clear-coat on some bike-parts made in my second unimould --

More pictures will follow .. of more skinned parts for the old "Flying Brick" BMW K75 I'm working on for a friend .. "Die Gummikuh" as the Germans call it .. Laugh

Thanks, I'm looking forward to the video.

I attempted to skin a test part in the meantime and found that the black epoxy basecoat wasn't very..... well, black. The part is bare fibreglass so light yellow in colour and after applying the basecoat it was marginally darker but still yellow.

I mixed up the basecoat at 3 to 1 as per the label. Just wondering if I did anything wrong or if I'm incorrect in expecting the basecoat to fully black out the part.

Sounds like you need to give the black basecoat a good stir in the container it came in .. maybe some of the pigment has "settled"

I never buy or use the black bascoat, so cannot testify as to how "opaque" it is or how well it covers.. I make my own, by adding apprx.. (very approximately .. Whistling) 5 % of EC's "West & Senior epoxy colour dispersion" in black ..  That covers even the brightest colours on the part ..  Very thin layers of basecoat will be a bit transparent ..

As already eluded to above, the base coat could well have settled or been applied thinly.    We use approximately 10% pigment by weight to achieve an opaque colour which should be plenty to make the resin a nice solid black when applied thick enough over the part.

Hi David,

That size of material would need very small amounts of resin, just under 10g of basecoat and under 20g of coating resin. You may find it difficult to accurately measure such small batches, even on precision jewellers scales, so you may be better off mixing a slightly bigger batch and accepting the resultant waste as it ensures you can keep the mixing ratio within 1% accuracy and hence you will get a good quality cure and finish.

Welcome to Warren

Is there a formula for calculating the amount of resin required for saturation of the fabric?

Is there a formula for calculating how much resin on base?

Hello.

I have a problem with too fast hardening resin.
When mixed with hardener and sculptures waiting 10 minutes to get rid of air bubbles, I put a small element of clear resins, after about 5 minutes she turned hot and hardened by what he could not with the rest of the elements.

This is my first project. What am I doing wrong ?
