As the title says,going to be making a 2 piece mould of a GSXR 1000
tailpiece,and I'm having trouble getting my head round it.The top is OK
it the underneath that's the problem,as you can see in the picture it
has a lip,so would the flange be best at 90 degrees or straight,as I
will be vacuum bagging the part when I make it,how do I hold the carbon
inplace.Hope I've made myself clear,in my head I know what I want to
say,but when it comes to writing it down it goes out the window.
Any advise is appreciated.

You can bring the flange straight up and out at 90deg to the under edge or set it at any angle you like,

thing to set in your minds eye is what it will look like when you have the mould in front of you and are about to lay up.

remember you will not use the bottom of your part, actual seat part (front/rear) so will only have to worry about the sides.




how are you doing it, infusion, pre peg etc.

Bit OTT,must be an easier way but I could not see it.It will do.
Got to order some release agent,not enough to do it all.

surely a top and bottom mould would have been easier ?

You could make the part in two separate halves and then join together after with epoxy putty. Or lay just the first layer of cloth on each half (separately) to capture the shape. Then, when cured, lay the rest of the cloth, join the two halves and cure to form one finished piece.
