      I am interested in thoughts as to reasons for using a glass fibre (Such as woven glass 2/2 twill) layer with woven carbon fibre layer in a laminate.

My thoughts are corrosion resistance of a metal part if next to the glass and cost.

What difficulties are presented ?

Could twill weave glass fibre be used for skinning.  

Yes .. Glass fibre twill can be used for "skinning"  --- in a single layer it will be nearly transparent though .. it will not hide the material underneath

I have successfully "skinned" wood parts with light weight woven glassfibre, and you can not really tell that the glass is there, it just looks like a very thick varnish.

Glass fibre is non conductive, and as such one choice for a "corrosion protective layer" between CF and metal parts.  Other choices are Diolene and pure Kevlars.
