Canvas? Interesting. Haven't heard of that being used in composites before?

It's a heavy cloth that saturates with resin...any reason why it wouldn't work?

BTW, this forum has become unusable on my iPhone. If I click on a specific thread when browsing within the subforums, it routes me back to the main page. Fortunately, this page is bookmarked in my mobile's browser otherwise I wouldn't be able to return here either.

Well what's the modulus of canvas? Denim is a cotton fabric and will absorb a lot of resin but it doesn't have any strength. Don't forget that resin itself is very weak, it's the fibreglass that makes things strong/stiff.

I could be wrong, it might have quite a high modulus. I suspect though that you may have unfortunately just made the mould heavier without really adding a lot of stiffness. I'll be interested to see how well it works! If you do find it is still too flexible, just use timber to stiffen it up, easily done and very little material costs.

Depending on the type of "canvas" it may work just fine ..   It will add some strength, but not nearly as much as glass-fibre..

What you should have bought at the local hardware store is  "Wall -glass mat"  of the cheapest type without any primer or binder in ..

Works a treat  with Epoxy ... and its cheap ..  No idea how it would work with Polystyrene though- --

"Sapere Aude"... Dare to KNOW!

Finally done with the mold. I have about 6 layers of chop strand mat and 1-2 layers of heavy weight canvas. There is a little "flex" in the mold still...for example, I can lift up gently on one corner and the opposite corner wI'll stay in place. I'm hoping this will minimize when the final layers of CSM cure.

I think it might be useful to put reinforcements also horizontal and diagonal to prevent flex as you wrote

The mold is done and the OEM roof pulled cleanly with surprisingly no drama.

A couple very small areas of alligatoring but otherwise in really happy with the mold:

That looks excellent, congrats and well done.

Is the mold a little flexy for your liking now that the roof is off or are you happy with it?

Let's see some infusions.....you're going at this very well in terms of time I might add.

Yes, it's a little flexy from corner to corner, but not so much that it will be an issue.

I think I'm just going to go ahead and infuse one roof without repairing the mold....I can sand/paint the final product. I'm suggesting this because I've never repaired a mold and I'm scared I'll mess something up before I pull a part.
