Hi All
Xmas has arrived early up here in Scotland. Opened up my first big infusion of 2014/15 carbon season tonight. First time I used MTI hose and first time I attempted a V joint.
Took a mould off my existing GRP and perspex aeroscreen. After the mould was made I sanded out the groove that was left in the mould where the GRP/perspex join was.
Used Pro weave for the outer layer and cut the join with scissors then butted them up. then 3 layers of black stuff.
Carried out 90% of the infusion with the resin feed at the same level as the mould then near the end dropped the resin cup down 1 meter and slightly before the resin hit the last of the MTI hose I clamped the resin feed off.
No pin holes. Woohoo
Which is the best spray tack adhesive to use nowadays?

The best spray tack to use is one made from infusion resin.
Mix up a small batch of resin with hardener, then put it in a small 1-200ml hand spray bottle. Something like this:
Dilute with purple methylated spirits around 10% or so (by eye) and keep adding meths until its dilute enough to spray through the bottle.
Then spray lightly over the mould surface and leave to cure for a couple hours until tacky. et viola, DIY spray tack that fully crosslinks with the resin during infusion and leaves no visible marks.
3M 99 is ok if you plan on flatting and then lacquering the part.

Aerofix 3 crosslinks with the resin and becomes totally invisible. I did a test the other day, behind Duratec Sunshield top coat in mould. Sprayed a really heavy amount, would never come close to spraying that amount normally, then layed up and infused the part. Had absolutely no sign of the spray adhesive, and being behind the top coat I wouldn't have been able to clean it up.
Brilliant stuff. Works with polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy.

You can get away with most spray tacks even hair spray when using an in mould clear coat as its not on the surface of the part.
I'm a bit skeptical about the cross linking as I cant see how it can cross link with different resin systems, but I may be wrong

Aerofix 3 isn't epoxy compatable so I would suspect it wouldn't be so invisible without a gelcoat/clearcoat in the mould.

Thanks Warren. Yes, the aim is to do the complete bodywork with a V join down the middle of the car. Front half of the car this winter (hopefully!). How is the Kitten coming on on? I'm looking for some inspirational pictures!
Warren (staff). I was looking at that Aerofix 3 stuff. The manufacturer doesn't state compatible with epoxy but then an american distributor did so i was a bit suspicious. Thanks for clearing that up. Pity there isn't an off the shelf solution that doesn't rely on me getting a little recipe mixed up correctly. The less to go wrong the better in my case!
I don't use in mould coatings and I will be getting all parts clear coated but I'd still want a perfect finish straight out the mould. So looks like i'll be trying you're DIY mixture.

It definitely is. I'll take some pictures today. 100% compatible with epoxy, and 100% invisible whether you use an in mould coating or not.
I use it every day with epoxy, no issue.

Hi Hanaldo
Thanks for taking the time to take a picture. The spray I was looking at was marked as Cytec rather then Umeco. Strange. I think there was a merger in 2012. The current data sheet doesn't state comparability with epoxy. On the can you have there is a small star next to 'epoxy resin', is there another star with further information on your can? Maybe on the rear of the can?
Data sheet I found here
