Hi Dave

Sorry for the late reply!

I don't have a middle rear view mirror and my side mirrors are bolted directly to the full cage.

Nearly got all the bodywork fitted up now, just the aeroscreen and some fettling of shut lines. Then waiting on my propshaft to be repaired, new radiator and new electric water pump then I might get the car back on the road this year!

Looking very nice a whole lot of sanding and polishing Smile

How are you going to fix the rear and side view mirrors.

I'm just about to start polishing my new scuttle and don't want to drill to many holes.
The rear view mirror, I was thinking about making an aluminium bracket that fixes to the center bolt of the dashboard to hold the rear mirror just under the aeroscreen.
The side mirrors, I plan on fixing F1 style to the side bolts used for holding the aeroscreen or full windscreen.

Hi All

Thought I would update this and put some pics up of the finished parts after many hours spraying 2K and wet sanding most of it all off again, haha. I now know that you don't need a special spray gun at all, you just need to know how to work a bit of wet and dry paper to get a nice finish.......

All four bodywork parts are now finished, just need to fit everything up back on the car.

Sounds like a thin coating. Looks outstanding, but if you want to find a coating that you don't have to spray in multiple coats, looks for high solids with good flow characteristics. Makes life so much easier, and you can generally fill the pinholes on the first wet coat by forcing it in with a brush, then it all levels out when you spray the second wet coat.

Hi All

Just finished spraying 2k clear over the first bodywork part. I used Quartz Liquid Glass and a DeVilbiss FLG5 gun and a FLRCAC-1 air filter. First time I've used a spraygun so took a bit of getting used to. I spray inside my garage and have the compressor outside in the garden away around the corner supplying air to my mask and gun. Not had any problems with sore heads like I had with the aerosol I used the first time. But anybody reading this that is contemplating spraying 2k for the first time, all I can say is buy all the correct and best of safety equipment you can. Its not worth cutting corners when spraying this stuff.

Lots of dry sanding and wet sanding. I've ended up putting about 9 coats of clear on this (lots of it was sanded off again, lol!). It looked pretty much perfect before spraying, didn't look like much pinholes at all. But everything appeared after spraying, haha. Ah well. I learned how to spray paint from it and got my technique sorted for the next parts.

Hi Brian,

I run everything off the same compressor and the compressor is getting it's fresh air intake from the outside not inside the garage, never had any problems with feeling horrible, dizziness ...

Totally agree with Hanaldo about the ventilation, my workshop is like a wind tunnel with the front and back open and I also have a quite large carbon filter that is positioned to suck up most of the over spray but any left over is almost instantly dispersed in the wind tunnel workshop.

How's your ventilation in the area you are spraying? I find ventilation is far more important than any PPE equipment you can use. It's a pain to get rid of debris, but I will NEVER spray 2K coatings in a closed environment (except for a proper spray booth of course).

I resisted using 2K systems as long as I could, but I eventually got to a level with what I'm doing where nothing else will cut it. I managed to source a system with very low VOC's which I am permitted to spray outside without breaching environmental laws, so this is what I do now.

Even with proper PPE, never ever spray in an enclosed area unless you have excellent extraction and fresh air supply systems, ie. a professional spray booth.

Hi Dave

So you've done a fair bit of 2k clear spraying now then? Never had any problems with feeling horrible? Do you just mix it up and spray it in your garage?

Do you run the air fed mask and the spray gun off the same compressor?

I was really keen on learning to spray but now I'm not so sure its worth the health risk.

Looking good Craig !

Sounds like you have the right spraying mask ...
Never used a 2K spray rattle can, maybe they have more activators in there or something but even so, are you fully suited up while spraying might be seeping thou the skin pours ...

You have got me looking at my center console now :|

Well this was a long time in the making...... Haha

Eventually sprayed this with 2k clear coat and polished it up. Looks good now but I wanted to ask about spraying 2k.

I got the proper air fed mask and the really expensive air filter for the mask supply, everything was working as it should. I was being really careful about always having the mask on but after spraying one can of 2k over two days i ended up with a sore head. I had read all the warnings and horror stories about 2k so I thought i was being very careful.

At the moment I'm thinking about paying my local spray painter to clear coat the rest of the bodywork now rather than risk any more 2k spraying myself. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.
