Group: Forum Members Posts: 7, Visits: 77	Hi I have made a Carbon arm for a robot in my uni mold form. i have coated the form with GC50 Epoxy Compatible Polyester Gelcoat, bot of some reason i have some holes in the surfase where the cabon epoxy and GC50 Epoxy Compatible Polyester Gelcoat is not glue together . Is it possible to repair it and how Kim Tags GC50GC50 Epoxy Compatible Polyester Gelcoat

Group: Forum Members Posts: 7, Visits: 77	Here is at picture you can see it on the side and i have fount out what is going wrong, inside the arm i have made a sandwich with pvc foam and no carbon tape on the side of the sandwich so there is a gab between the carbon and the sandwich, and i think the resin has been runing in this channel insted of going through the carbon so i know what to do next time i make a arm. But i dont have the time to make i now, so a repair of this one will be good for me now sorry for my pur english

Group: Forum Members Posts: 346, Visits: 4.4K	An alternative to lining a foam core with tape is to chamfer the edge of the core so the carbon comes down to the lower layer. I also run one or two carbon tows down the join to fill any bridging. I made a repair panel recently with a foam core, chamfered the edge that I was keeping and didn't bother with the side that will get cut off When this was vacuumed, the carbon bridged the square edge creating something similar to what you described on the right. This panel also had a 2mm step in it on the left and you can see what I mean about have a couple strands along a step to prevent bridging

Group: Administrators Posts: 2.5K, Visits: 8.5K	Fill in the repair with GC50 with some Solution MW Wax Gelcoat Additive and it will cure with a non-tacky finish. Once fully cured, the wax will wash off with a solvent. You can then flat back and polish up the repair. Alternative to Solution MW is to stretch release film over the repair to seal it from the air. You have a gap where there is no resin?! add some transparant gelcoat and cover it with some kitchenfoil (for microwave) on top so it can cure... Do this in a few steps so that the gap is filled again (similar to applying bondo to fill some holes but with gelcoat in fact) Sand and polish and it should be good but you might still see a small difference. I am from Denmark, and I Can see that it is not possible to send Solution MW becurse it is dangerous, what can I do? I need it very much, because I need my robot with the exhibition first Febuar in Berlin so I'm a little desperate :-) Kim
