I always use a vinylester. It's fast, cheap, chemical/heat resistent and works well with epoxy and polyester parts Wink

why not just use a powder based CSM suitable for use with epoxy?

styrene from resin/hardener will solve the polyestyrene foam if in direct contact.

Epoxy gel coat will créate a barrier between foam and laminating resin. It will work if it doesn't content styrene.

So.... make a test and you´ll know from first hand... Smile

Epoxy + mat should work OK. Slower impregnation so, a bit of patience, and maybe a Little bit thicker mould, if it will withstand vacuum, high pressure or high temperatura.....

€15 for a 1kg kit isn't "cheap". It's the cost of a standard epoxy.
Umm, 1,2 kg of west system 206 (a+b) costs 35 €  so there is sense of using epidian ;(

€15 for a 1kg kit isn't "cheap". It's the cost of a standard epoxy. It sounds like you've got a modified epoxy vinyl ester, maybe not. Either way it seems to be a polish product which hasn't left the country.
You're better off using a tried and tested Vinyl Ester like Neogel or Nord GC206, followed by a rapid tooling system like Neomould or Optimold.

Hi !
I was talking with my supplier and he recommended me to use epoxy gelcoat to make moulds as it is better, stiffer etc. but if you use epoxy gelcoat you have to use epoxy resin and woven glass as a reinforcement so the price would be really high, so I started to think, we have in Poland epoxy resin called epidian 53 and it is normal epoxy but the catalyst/hardener contains styrine, so I though, that I could use epoxy gelcoat, epidian and as a reinforcement CSM. Epidian is really cheap, it coasts about 15 euro for 1kg with hardener. So guys, what do you think about doing mould like this? Will it work? Thanks for answer. Sorry for my enlish

Bye
Wojtek from Poland Smile
