Group: Forum Members Posts: 11, Visits: 55	+x torsten Ker - 11/5/2020 11:15:31 PM have you thought about doing 2 parts , angeling the sides/rounding and glueing them together with glassfibre tape One mould for the back and one for the font A single multipart usuable mould will be a lot of work You could then sand off the seam edges, fill them abit and spray the lot much easier that way I did that on 1989 for bike saddle bags with polyester and hand layup :-) I will try, do you have pics about it?

I guess the bag hat to be rigid and think you will have no other choice to make 5 part mould, each side and bottom or it will be a challenge to get the saddlebag out The problem is the straight side...

I was thinking in 3, the side and front, the rear and the back, and bottom... but i'm not sure if can take out

yes, you are right, that may work but I think not to make the mould to stiff and be carefull not to crack the gelcoat on demoulding

I would do in fiberglass, I check your video, but I don't if I must to do with the mould open and leave a dry fiberglass for close and seal from inside? Thanks for your advice

I have 3 and 4 part moulds, created flanges which have a 2cm polished flat (like a U Channel profile) on the edges outside and I seal them with gum tape only having to put a bag into the indise as...

Two sides and the bottom as you said. Split the sides on the radius of opposing corners and you won't have a problem getting the straight draught sections out.

I just wonder how you gone get the flange on the bottom outside done if you create a single part out of a single mould, 3 way slit I would recomment to do 2 moulds and glue the halves together

and split the sides like this, thats how I did it, sorry no picktures, that was a teenage project for my own bike at the time :-)

Splitting it like this not only makes the straight draft an issue for release, but it also puts the flash line right down the middle of an aesthetically important area of the bag. Splitting it down.....

the sides were important, not the photoshop line, I would only leave a 2inch flange and on one side of the part to be bonded to the second with a semi rigid mould to allow flexibility on demoulding....

Your original finish didn't look very glossy to begin with? And it looks like you've used regular gelcoat rather than tooling gelcoat, which is ok but regular gelcoat does tend to have lower gloss...

This is the only gel coat the I kind find in my city... we are far away from everything... I paint the original but didn't put gloss coat, only sand with 600 papers... I use wax and liquid release......

If I understand correctly you will do wet layup in open mould. In my opinion you should do every part separate and leave overlap so when you close mould, you can roll those overlaps and form joints....
