Has anyone succeeded in making their own carbon fiber brake rotors and bads for a carbon on carbon braking system for a race car?

...What kind of process did you follow for making them?
Any special considerations?
How did you test them?

I'm just curious to know if it would be as straightforward as it seems it would be or if there is some "secret magic" that prevents mere mortals from attempting the feat.

Thanks

Carbon brakes are "grown"
They start with basic carbon cloth "web"
Burn the correct gasses at the right pressure and the right temperature  ( VERY HOT ) and  slowly pure carbon particles form.
Takes about 6 weeks to grow a disc.
Modern discs have slightly diffrent characteristics as they alter the gasses used an the various quantities
Originally the discs that were used in f1 were the off cuts from the plane industry.
F1 discs were the centres that were cut out off the discs for Boeing 747

Pretty much what rob says. I thought they took more than 6 weeks and more like 3 months.
But I certainly wouldn't look into trying to make some.
I bought a couple to make into light fitting bases and they were relatively cheap.

Hi mate rumour has it the boys at ks tried to make discs with high temp pre preg
Didn't end well surprisingly
