Carbon Fiber Brakes

Has anyone succeeded in making their own carbon fiber brake rotors and bads for a carbon on carbon braking system for a race car?

...What kind of process did you follow for making them?
Any special considerations?
How did you test them?

I'm just curious to know if it would be as straightforward as it seems it would be or if there is some "secret magic" that prevents mere mortals from attempting the feat.

Thanks

Carbon brakes have absolutely nothing to do with usual carbon composites, from a process view. As a hobbyist you will not get the materials or the equipment.
The process I was involved in was this: resin impregnated fibres (not epoxy) were placed into a mould and baked. This burned the resin, leaving only graphite.  after this the now porous material was infused with resin and baked several times to get rid of the porosity.  So in the end you get a carbon fibre reinforced graphite material, which is much more heat resistant than any crp.
So no, it is absolutely not a straight forward process.
