The necessity for a split-mould seems pretty obvious - if you stood at the front of the car looking down the middle of the roof, the rebates for the door and the weather channel seem to undercut quite distinctly (just picture trying to lift that mould off the roof and door rebates!) which means you would need to either split the whole mould down the middle of the roof-line or have bolt-on/removable barriers at the edges that form the rebate and weather channel.

Looking at the detail of the pressed steel around the door closure area and the weather tracks I would have thought that you might even need to do some smoothing out and simplifying of that detail too.

Mechanical lock. Yes we’ve all had those.

In the 70's I was Project Engineer in charge the design of the inspection media for the T68 ( no it was an Australian Land Train not a Russian tank). Only had problems with one fixture. I worked out we could spring the panel out of the fixture so we wouldn’t need to go to the cost of a two part fixture. Well you could spring the panel, but you can’t spring a wooden buck. Whoops.

I am about to remake my roof, so have similar issues. At the moment my plan is to make a 3 piece mould, with the joins very close to the door recesses. Doing it this way keeps the main roof panel as a single piece, removing the risk of a join showing in the final part.

This is how I was thinking of maybe doing this mould the roof on one bit then both sides separate
