im undertaking a project which i have used this thread for inspiration.
as my final piece will essentially be a very large flat area, any uneveness would show instantly so i wanted to minimise any sanding/correction in the mould. my plan is to do as you have suggested with the aluminium tape but then key it and put a thick layer of paint on which will be flatted and polished to give the gloss finished required
thought this idea may have been of some use to you
