I've heard of people putting cellophane or a similar material over it but then you "hear" lot's of things that aren't true...

I've heard of people putting cellophane or a similar material over it but then you "hear" lot's of things that aren't true...If you definitely need to keep the original, only thing I can suggest is to use imaging software to make a digital copy. Needs a lotta photos though depending how accurate you need the copy to be.I'm in the process opf making a digital model of a local landmark...currently at the 2000 photo mark but then I'm going for an insane level of detail. I would think 200-500 would be enough for your part - maybe even less.
