Hi Bean Bandit,

I'm not sure about a wider fabric. Again, I'm happy to consider your post as a vote for it but our future plans probably centre more around alternative weights than widths but I'll note that alternative widths have been enquired about too.

Best regards, Matt

Hi Andy,

The current Black Stuff Carbon Fibre 2/2 Twill 3k 200g uses a slightly lower strength fibre that our usual Carbon Fibre 2/2 Twill 3k 199g but it has a very similar tensile modulus.

Here's the comparison:

STANDARD (1ST GRADE)  -  4410MPa (tensile strength) - 235GPa (tensile modulus)
BLACK STUFF - 3450MPa (tensile strength) - 230GPa (tensile modulus)

Full details can be found on the SPECIFICATION tab on both products pages (for the black stuff and our standard fibre).

As you can see, the ultimate tensile strength (the amount of load at which the fibre would break) is lower although its tensile modulus (i.e. how stiff it is) is almost the same. This means that in terms of the stiffness of a panel, they would be very similar but the total load you could put on a panel before it would break would be lower with the BLACK STUFF. Its properties are still way ahead of alternative materials at a similar price.

Any chance for future black stuff in a slightly wider version (1.2m or more)?

Id be interested in a heavier grade... i tend to use pro carbon on the face and back with 650 if i need bulk, which would still be cheaper and easier.

other than looks does the 'blackstuff' have any structural drawbacks?

The 200g 2/2 Twill Black Stuff has just been delivered this morning. We're seriously considering what we could do (price wise) on heavier grades of the same material. Anyone who wants to snap up some bargain 200g 2/2 twill carbon will find it available to buy online here: https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/200g-black-stuff-22-twill-3k-carbon-fibre-cloth and then if we do something in the future on some heavier fabrics then I'll be sure to post an announcement.

All the best, Matt

Yes, we do. Material will be with us on or around the 16th of January (so this Friday). Lots of demand again by the looks of it but we have good stocks, initially anyway.

Thanks for the feedback FLD. Actually, we have trialled that packing method for all our fabrics and feedback (and our own opinion) was split between though that favour the brown paper and those that favour the bubblewrap. Generally, I'm on the bubblewrap side which is why that's what we normally use but it is interesting to hear your feedback, and that of others, which of course informs our opinions and decision on things such as this.
