I looked carefully at the rocker cover with the intention to make canon ones (I had carbon ones designed and made for my Ultima by Reverie around 10 years ago)... however the noble ones are way too complex a shape to attempt and they are sided so would have been a huge amount of work... Carbon inlet manifold is a possibility though.

I haven't considered the sump for the reasons Warren identified... plus its already alloy so fairly light and we are currently doing a redesign of it due to some surge even with the huge winged one I have now.... the benefit of metal that warren didn't mention is that it also cools the oil which a carbon sump wouldn't do.

Often you are best designing the part from scratch rather than copying the alloy cast original as they can get away with more complex shapes and logos in a cast part than composite.

If i made a camcover in the future it would be my own design, based on factory dimensions so its easy to mould.

Hi
So you are doing something like monocoque? because I am not sure what more can be done here with carbon Tongue maybe wheels BigGrin

I started making the moulds for my carbon seats a few weeks back, also made a diffuser which is nearly finished.... so there is always things left to make from carbon.

However Im not sure my composite skills are up to making wheels lol
Do you make your diffuser from scracht? Do you put some naca ducts on your pannels maybe? Do you have flat bottom of your car? because otherwise diffuser doesn't make any sense BigGrin

~~~Everytime I hear sound of demoulding part I have eargasm~~~
Haven't posted on this forum in a loooooon time but i think this is really worthy. I love what you are doing here Andy! What engine specs are you going for?
Also just to add this spanner to the works, a friend of mine works for the company that provides f1 teams with their pre-preg. He told me that red bull racing cam covers were 1 layer thick of normal pre-preg carbon. Obviously i can say this is 100% accurate but i can see why they do it!
the entire car underside is flat, I made the diffuser from scratch and of cause it had to be in V weave.
Here is a pic of it upside down on the kitchen table
and a pic of the mould I make from MDF
glad you like it, and thanks for the info... the engine is already 700bhp, its unique in the UK as its a single turbo that I designed myself with my own design of clutch package.... car is a real 1off in almost all areas.
To be honest all the mods on this car is simply R&D for my scratch build car that I have designed and been building forever lol.
I started making the barriers for the first mould section.... Care must be taken to ensure the mould will release from both the buck AND the final part. You will always make the final part slightly oversize so it's very easy to accidentally get a lock on the overlap or the other mould sections.
Current plan is for this to be 9 sections ( my rear clip was 12).... So far I have got the first layer of the gel coat down, another coat tomorrow morning and then I can do the coupling coat.
Looking good Andy!!
Under the fibreglass tub is there a metal spaceframe or is it a true structural composite centre tub on nobles??
Its a space frame so the tub isn't structural... Once I have removed the original tub I am going to replace all the alloy panels with carbon ones Smile
Im going the whole hog with my project but it will take a while!!
