yup u can i do that all the time in fact i prefer it cause the gelcoat isnt as clear as the resin but make sure u put 2 layers of pva and puff your wax perfectly before the pva , i always do that and if your mold is good u wouldnt need to do anything to the part cause it will release shiny tooSmile

I've tried spraying spray-gel with a conventional HVLP spray gun... I have to say the results were not great! basically it only just barely came out! That was with a 1.6mm nozzle, looking at the gear like cup-guns they seem to have pretty huge nozzles... I'm sure that's where the answer lies.

What you will find when trying to use laminating resin as a gelcoat is that it will fish eye when brushed on due to the release agent. Easy composites do a clear colourless Epoxy Gel coat which will work alot better. If your going down the gelcoat route, try to get as thinner film on as possible, spraying it on with a dump/cup gun will give you the best results.

can a coat of laminating resin be used as a first coat of a mould? the smell of the polyester is driving me nuts and was going to try the epoxy resin instead.

thanks
